Meet the Founder
Ria Sengupta Bhatt is Founder and Principal Consultant at Mandala Strategies, where she brings over 20 years of expertise at the intersections of the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, and public policy. Ria’s professional journey is marked by a deep commitment to empathy, social justice, and integrity, which she believes are key to driving meaningful change.
Throughout her consulting career, Ria has partnered with a diverse array of clients, including foundations, universities, nonprofits, and research organizations. Her work spans launching new programs, developing strategy, assessing impact, and conducting applied research.
In addition to her consulting work, Ria’s experience in leadership roles within philanthropy and policy advocacy has equipped her with a robust understanding of equity-centered policy change and grantmaking. She has developed impactful grantmaking portfolios, built networks, conducted original research, and engaged with policymakers to drive progress on critical policy issues.
Ria’s approach at Mandala Strategies is rooted in partnership and personalization. She is dedicated to ensuring that every organization she works with is left in a stronger, more effective position than before, reflecting her commitment to fostering lasting and positive change.
Ria holds a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University and a BA in economics from UCLA. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and two children. Ria is an avid reader, an aspiring roller skater, and a proud supporter of transgender rights. She serves as District IV Commissioner of the Contra Costa County Commission on the Status of Women & Girls, and as a member of the 2024 class of the prestigious Leadership California fellowship.
